How Can I Increase My Christian Faith?

Many Christians report moments – and even seasons – of doubt in God and His Word. Here are some passages for when you’re feeling weak, to encourage you and to reignite your faith:

  • First of all, the Bible teaches that salvation – and the promise of eternal life – are provided to all who repent of their sins, believe in Christ’s death on the cross, and make Him the Lord of their life. This is Good News indeed!
    • ‘I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life’ (Jn 5:24). This is just as true today as when you were saved, whether that was hours or years ago. No matter what troubles you experience here on earth, God promises you a future in Heaven with Him
    • ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding’ (Pr 3:5). We may not always understand God’s ways, but we are called to trust and obey them regardless. His ways are higher than ours and He has everything under control – even when it all looks so bleak from our viewpoint
  • After we are saved, we have the privilege of a relationship with Him
    • ‘In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence’ (Eph 3:12). The Bible teaches that we can come to our Father God with all of our troubles. He is waiting and eager to hear from us
    • ‘But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you’ (Ps 5:11). We should be glad to love and rejoice in the One Who saved us!
  • We can draw great confidence from God and His promises
    • ‘But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit’ (Jer 17:7-8). The Bible teaches that we will continue to grow in Christ – ‘to bear fruit’ – as He waters and tends us

If you’re feeling weak in your faith and need a pick-up, seek some extra time alone with God and get into the Word. You’ll be encouraged and your faith will be strengthened.
