How Can We Promote Christ This Christmas?

In the crazy lead up to Christmas, when shopping for gifts and end of year parties take prominence, even Christians can tend to put Christ on hold.

But Christmas is the perfect opportunity for Christians to rededicate themselves to God and for non-Christians to find out just why His birth is still celebrated 2000 years later. So what are some practical ways to promote Christ this Christmas?

  • Christmas cards: a traditional way to promote Christ is to send Christmas cards that have a biblical theme (with angels, the baby Jesus, a Christmas star, etc.) instead of a secular theme (with Santa Claus, Christmas trees, snowmen, etc.). There are many Christmas cards available that include Bible verses. You can send the cards to your Christian friends in order to bless and encourage them, but even better is to send them to your non-Christian friends, family members, colleagues and other contacts, in order to get them thinking about the real reason that we celebrate Christmas

  • Carol services: most churches organise carol services in the lead up to Christmas and your non-Christian friends might just agree to come along, even if they normally wouldn’t set foot inside a church. Most carol services include an evangelistic message so they’re perfect for getting people thinking seriously about their personal relationship with God. It’s a great idea to take your friend out for a coffee after the service so that if he or she has any questions that arose from the message, they can ask you straight away

  • Church services: if your friends are open to attending church, then you could invite them to a
service on Christmas morning. Christmas Day services are usually suitable for people with little or no knowledge of the Bible and will always include an evangelistic message

  • Community event: you could also be more creative and get your whole community involved, such as in the case of the parishioners from eight communities in Shropshire, England, who recently re-enacted the Christmas story in one of their villages. Locals dressed up as angels, shepherds, Romans and other biblical characters and journeyed from the local pub to the church and then on to a stable at a nearby farm, singing Christmas carols which told the story of the birth of Christ. This is just one example of a community which worked together to make the Christmas story known throughout their area

But perhaps most importantly of all, Christians should simply seek opportunities to share the Gospel through their everyday conversations. It’s the perfect time of year to do it as many people are much more open to hearing about Christ.
