What’s So Special About The Movie ‘Fireproof’?

The new movie, ‘Fireproof’, in cinemas this month, is raising interest in Christian circles because of its extremely strong presentation of the Gospel.

In Fireproof, Kirk Cameron (Growing Pains; Left Behind) stars as Captain Caleb Holt, a firefighter who works by the adage, ‘Never leave your partner behind’.

But at home, he lives by his own rules. As he and his wife Catherine prepare to enter divorce proceedings, Caleb’s father challenges his son to take up a 40-day ‘Love Dare’. While undertaking the challenge, Caleb becomes frustrated time and again and finally asks in exasperation, ‘How am I supposed to show love to someone who constantly rejects me?’ His father explains that this is exactly how Christ loves us.

‘They called me and said they’d like me to come down and audition for the lead role,’ recalls Kirk. ‘They gave me nine scenes to read and all of them were pretty intense emotionally. I had to be angry, frustrated, and tense. I had to be weeping and crying, asking for forgiveness. I had to be strong and in command of a fire rescue scene. I really wanted to do this part ... and God opened the door.

‘I’d like for people to say, “That’s our marriage; that’s me; that’s our problem,”’ says Kirk. ‘I want them to leave feeling convicted and hopeful. I want them to go out with a new resolve to get things right with God and put their marriages back at the top of their priorities.

‘Fireproof is a great story of how the power of God transforms two human beings.’

Many churches are expected to use this film as an outreach tool. In fact, Fireproof has already received great reviews from Christian leaders:
