What’s The Point Of Christian Fellowshipping?

Christian Fellowshipping

It may surprise you how many Bible passages are dedicated to the topic of fellowshipping with other Christians.

But God knows that we need the support of other believers, for encouragement and assistance. He is also glorified when Christians meet together in His Name.

The Bible calls us to help and encourage other Christians, to be united with them in love, and to regularly meet together, in order to obey Christ:

    • ‘My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ’ (Col 2:2)
    • ‘Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ’ (Gal 6:2)
    • ‘Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching’ (Heb 10:25)

The Bible teaches that we should love one another, as a sign that we are true believers and so that God’s love may be made complete in us:

    • ‘We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death’ (1 Jn 3:14)
    • ‘Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God’ (1 Jn 4:7)
    • ‘Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us’ (1 Jn 4:11-12)

The Bible also teaches that when we fellowship with other believers, we also fellowship with God, through His Son Jesus Christ:

    • ‘For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them’ (Matt 18:20)
    • ‘Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers’ (Heb 2:11)
    • ‘But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin’ (Jn 13:7)

It’s so important that we fellowship with other believers. It’s great to catch up at church, but it’s the more intimate sessions through the week – such as Bible study groups, prayer sessions or simply catching up over coffee – that really create and solidify strong Christian relationships.
