'Where will Christians live after death?'

When a man or woman makes Christ the Lord of their life (when they repent of their sins which Christ paid the penalty for on the cross, and when they submit to Him), He promises them eternal life spent with Him.

The Bible teaches that the only death that Christians will experience is physical death – the death of our body. Our eternal soul will live on. The Good News is that when we make Christ the Lord of our life, we get to live with Him forever. Revelation 21:5-7 says, ‘Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.”’

But where will we live after death?

The Bible teaches that this world in which we currently live will pass away: ‘Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband’ (Rev 21:1-2). This Scripture teaches that our present world will ‘pass away’ and that after death we will live in the city of New Jerusalem. Just as Jerusalem is God’s Holy City on this earth, New Jerusalem will be God’s Holy City throughout eternity. It is here that Christ promised that He would prepare a place for all who believe in Him, ready and waiting for when they join Him after death.

Any pain that we encounter here on earth will be nothing compared with the overwhelming joy we’ll experience when we enter God’s presence: ‘And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”’ (Rev 21:3-4) God desires that we have a relationship with Him while here on earth, so that we can continue to have a relationship with Him after death.
